The Bottom Line |
| |
| Remember that area plans and schedules are nothing more than different ways to view your model and the parametric data inside it. Learning how to leverage these view types can be a huge time-saver for your project. In this chapter we created some area plans and schedules, but remember that this data will be constantly updating itself to reflect the most current status of your project. Set it up once and you have a tool you can regularly refer back to for project metrics. |
| Create your own dynamic area plans Once your plans are established, create your own area plans to dynamically track changes in the project. |
Not All Schedules Need to Appear on Sheets
You can use schedules to document used objects in your project (number of doors or windows, furniturepieces, material quantity, areas of rooms, etc.), but you can also use it to look for inconsistencies withinyour model. For instance, you can keep a schedule of textnotes only within a model and not use them onsheets. This schedule can then be used to look for odd items inserted into the model. For example, youcan schedule the textnote name and the number of times it appears in the model. Perhaps the scheduleindicates that a particular note is used only one or two times in the model. You can then decide ifthe note was inserted incorrectly into the project and determine whether it’s inconsistent with theother notes in the model. The same thing can be done for wall types or anything else in the model |
Master It Establish your preliminary design, and then create area plans so you can keep up-to-date with space sizes, allocations, and your project program.
Perform an initial cost estimate for the project Create a schedule that tracks project costs based on an estimated sq. ft. cost
Master It Many developers and facilities managers use BOMA calculations for figuring rentable area, gross area, and R/U (rentable/usable) ratios. Establishing area plans and schedules can help you find these numbers much quicker than a legacy CAD system would have allowed.
Create a schedule of materials from the model One of the benefits of Revit is the ability to manage not only your drawings, but also other information about the project. Create schedules for your project templates to manage the materials within the project.
Master It Schedules have a multitude of uses and value at all levels of the project. Explore a variety of schedules to optimize your workflow and maximize what you can get from the model. |
